I just read this book called GUINEA PIGS AS PETS (MAD ON ANIMALS)by Madeline Dyer. Did you know Guinea pigs live around 5-8 years and are considered a herd animal. They definitely need another guinea pig to live with. As I read this book I had no idea there are so many different kinds of guinea pigs. Some have short hair, some have long hair, some are solid in color and some have more than one color on their coat. Their is even a Dalmatian Guinea Pig with the base color of white and black spots all over it. I would have loved to see more pictures of the different kinds, but yes she does have some pictures in this book. Did you know that guinea pigs need to eat vegetables to be healthy. Madeline has made this book very informative like, did you know if you fill their empty water bottle half with water and a table spoon of dried rice and shake it real good you will be cleaning the water bottle. Interesting isn't it. She also gives instructions on how to give a guinea pig a bath and how to brush their hair. If you decide you want a guinea pig as a pet for yourself or your child I suggest you read this book first for helpful advice. This young author has helpful hints from clipping their nails to the kind of cage you should get and the different kinds of bedding to keep your pet comfortable.
